Who fits, why, and how we see it.
When interim is the answer
Three reasons to bring someone in from outside, temporarily.

You recognise it by
- A case manager is temporarily unavailable
- A departure, or a vacancy that stays open longer than you can wait
- The caseload grows faster than the team
Who fits
An experienced case manager who takes over a caseload without a long onboarding period.
What it delivers
Files and deadlines keep moving, the team is relieved and you arrange the structural solution at your own pace.
Interim is not just extra capacity. A good interim professional temporarily stands at the heart of your organisation, without being part of its history.
Who it is for
Employer or occupational health service: the same care.
One conversation, one Advisory Report within 48 hours. Only the context in which the professional lands differs.
You are an employer
Your own absence team or HR department temporarily needs reinforcement. The professional works within your organisation, alongside your managers, HR and occupational physician.
You are an occupational health service
You are looking for capacity for your own team, or for a client you serve. We look with you at what the assignment requires in that context.

Advisory Report
Interim case management for Example organisation
What we have understood
Absence at Example organisation, a healthcare organisation with around 2,400 employees at three locations, has been rising for several quarters. The team of four case managers is one colleague short due to long-term absence and the caseload is growing.
A growing share of the cases concerns mental health absence, a reorganisation is under way, and the organisation wants to set up a new way of working at the second location. The situation is therefore broader than an empty seat in the team.
There are two concrete needs:
- Continuity and experience in The Hague: a senior case manager who gets up to speed quickly and has experience with mental health absence and reorganisations, 24 to 32 hours a week, four to six months.
- A new way of working at the second location: a case manager who helps set up a pilot close to operations and brings structure.
Both within a rate band of € 80 to € 100 per hour. Availability is a condition, but the question is who fits this situation.
How we made our selection
We spoke personally with each professional about this assignment, and looked at experience with mental health absence and reorganisations, setting up a new way of working, working style and firm availability. Three professionals remained; for each one you can read why the profile fits and where the points of attention lie.

Overview of professionals
Three profiles at a glance
| Professional | Based in | Experience | Available | Rate | Essence |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Professional A | Rotterdam | 12 years, RCCM, CROV | 32 hours, immediately | € 98 | Senior, reorganisation experience, directive |
| Professional B | Utrecht | 9 years, CROV, occupational psychology | 28 hours, from two weeks' time | € 95 | Mental health absence, twice set up on-site case management |
| Professional C | Breda | 5 years, CROV in training | 36 hours, immediately | € 82 | Operational, task delegation, many hours available |
Travel time to The Hague, indicative: Rotterdam half an hour, Utrecht three quarters of an hour, Breda just over an hour. For the second location this is of course different.
What the three have in common
- We spoke personally with all of them about exactly this assignment and they are interested.
- Availability and rates have been agreed with them and are current as of the date of this report.
- Rates are per hour, excluding VAT and excluding travel expenses.

Where the professionals are based in relation to The Hague
The circles indicate roughly one and two hours' drive from The Hague. Professional A lives half an hour away, B three quarters of an hour, C just over an hour. Once it is known which location takes part in the pilot, we also use this map to match on travel distance.

The professionals
Three case managers, spoken to personally
Professional A
Rotterdam · 12 years' experience · RCCM, CROV
Why they fit
- Lives half an hour from The Hague and can be on site several days a week.
- Twelve years in absence management, four of them at an employer with 2,400 employees going through a reorganisation. Knows the pace and the sensitivities.
- Directive where needed, facilitating where possible. Takes over part of the caseload without an induction period.
Points of attention
- The rate is at the top of the band; on the other hand she starts without a run-up.
- Less experience with mental health absence than Professional B.
Practical
Available: 32 hours a week, immediately
Location: The Hague, several days a week; hybrid
Rate: € 98 per hour excluding VAT

Example organisation
Example · anonymised
Professional B
Utrecht · 9 years' experience · CROV, occupational psychology background
Why they fit
- Specialised in mental health absence: the share of cases growing fastest within the organisation.
- Set up on-site case management at two previous employers, including regular absence conversations and agreements with line management. Exactly the new way of working the second location is looking for.
- Looks on as an outsider and names what has become self-evident internally, without putting the team's back up.
Points of attention
- Starts in two weeks; until then only an introduction and a first analysis.
- Utrecht is three quarters of an hour away; two days on site is very feasible, preferably not more.
Practical
Available: 28 hours a week, from two weeks' time
Location: Hybrid; second location and The Hague
Rate: € 95 per hour excluding VAT

Example organisation
Example · anonymised
Professional C
Breda · 5 years' experience · CROV in training
Why they fit
- Operationally trained and used to working close to the shop floor. Worked on the floor himself before entering the absence profession.
- Experience with task delegation and with holding absence conversations on site.
- Available full-time and immediately: the most hours of the three.
Points of attention
- Five years' experience: less seniority than A and B, and no experience with reorganisations.
- Breda is just over an hour from The Hague; a better fit for the second location than for the team.
Practical
Available: 36 hours a week, immediately
Location: Flexible; second location preferred
Rate: € 82 per hour excluding VAT

Comparison
A, B and C side by side, on substance
| Criterion | Professional A | Professional B | Professional C |
|---|---|---|---|
| Experience | 12 years | 9 years | 5 years |
| Certification | RCCM, CROV | CROV | CROV in training |
| Reorganisation | Extensive | Sufficient | None |
| Mental health absence | Sufficient | Specialism | Limited |
| Setting up a new way of working | Limited | Done twice | Limited |
| Working style | Directive | Analytical, connecting | Operational |
What the comparison shows
All three can carry the cases, but they fit a different part of the situation. A brings immediate continuity and experience with reorganisations. B brings the expertise in mental health absence and the experience with a new way of working. C mainly brings hours and operational understanding.

Example organisation
Example · anonymised
Practical comparison
Assignment, start and conditions
| Criterion | Professional A | Professional B | Professional C |
|---|---|---|---|
| Start | Immediately | In two weeks | Immediately |
| Hours per week | 32 | 28 | 36 |
| Induction period | None | One week | One week |
| On site | Three days | Two days | Four days |
| Travel time The Hague | Half an hour | Three quarters of an hour | Just over an hour |
| Rate per hour | € 98 | € 95 | € 82 |
Availability is one criterion
On availability alone C would be the logical choice: the most hours, immediately. For this situation that does not weigh heaviest. The team needs continuity, and the second location needs someone who can establish a new way of working.
Rates are per hour, excluding VAT and travel expenses. Availability was confirmed again with all three this week.

How we would put the puzzle together
Our advice, with reasoning
We do not only select; we also give our advice. This is how we would link the three profiles to your situation.
Professional A: immediate continuity
The strongest choice to relieve the team in The Hague straight away. Twelve years' experience, no induction period, and familiar with the dynamics of a reorganisation.
Professional B: expertise and the new way of working
The strongest choice for the growth in mental health absence and for the second location. She has set up on-site case management twice before and takes a fresh look at what could be done better internally.
Professional C: an alternative with other priorities
Interesting if hours and speed weigh more heavily than seniority, or if the pilot mainly needs to run operationally.
Our advice: start with Professional A in the team and let Professional B set up the new way of working at the second location. Keep C in view if the caseload remains high after the reorganisation.

Using interim
Why interim instead of hiring someone permanently?
Interim does not have to be the opposite of a permanent position. It can bridge a period, absorb temporary pressure or add expertise, while you arrange the structural solution with care.
Is interim not more expensive?
Do not compare the hourly rate alone. A temporary assignment gives you capacity that is available straight away without a structural commitment, and Valentis takes the selection, the availability check and the advice off your hands. We are happy to work through what it means in your situation.
How quickly can someone start?
That depends on the assignment and current availability. In the Advisory Report you can read, for each professional, the possible start date, the hours, the location and the availability.
How is this different from a secondment agency or a freelance platform?
Valentis focuses solely on interim case management and absence management, and works with independent professionals we know personally. You do not get a list of profiles to search through yourself, but one Advisory Report in which we weigh up who fits and why.
And what if my situation also calls for medical expertise?
Valentis does not carry out medical assessments itself. Where that is needed, we quickly involve the occupational physicians of BedrijfsartsPlus, an independent medical advisory firm we work closely with.
The Advisory Report
When do the 48 hours start?
As soon as we have discussed your situation in depth. Within 48 hours after that you receive the Valentis Advisory Report.
Are all 150+ professionals available straight away?
No. Availability is checked again for every assignment. The Advisory Report only includes professionals whose current availability fits your request.
Does the professional know they are being put forward?
Yes. We do not put anyone forward unless they know the assignment and are open to it themselves. So you only speak to professionals who are interested.
What if no suitable professional is available?
Then we say so. We do not put anyone forward just to fill the report. Where possible we indicate what can be done in the short term, or when we can look again.
May I share the report internally?
Yes. The report is written for your organisation and is meant to be discussed internally, for example with HR or the team's manager. It contains details of professionals, so only share it with those involved in the decision.
Rate and agreements
What does the Advisory Report cost?
Nothing. The first conversation and the Advisory Report are free of charge and without obligation. Costs only arise when you choose an assignment.
How does the rate work?
The rate for each professional is stated transparently in the Advisory Report in advance. So you know what an assignment costs before the introduction.
Am I committed to anything after the report?
No. You decide whether and with whom you want an introduction, and whether you want to continue after that.
What if things go differently than expected after the start?
During the assignment Valentis remains the point of contact for you and for the professional. If something goes differently than expected, call us. We discuss it straight away and look together at what is needed.
Assurance
How well does Valentis know the professionals?
Professionals complete an extensive onboarding before there is an assignment, and everyone we put forward has spoken to Valentis personally: about experience and certification, but also about working style, preferences and availability.
Does an algorithm decide who you recommend?
No. Technology helps us see more quickly who may be relevant. Valentis makes the assessment and gives the advice itself. There is no score and no percentage.
How does Valentis deal with the Dutch DBA Act (Wet DBA)?
Valentis works with independent professionals. We record the nature of the assignment, the independence and the mutual responsibilities in advance, and we are happy to discuss this topic with you before an assignment starts.
Is Valentis WAADI registered?
Yes. Valentis B.V. is listed as an intermediary in the WAADI register (the Dutch register for labour intermediaries) of the Chamber of Commerce (KVK). You can verify this yourself with the KVK WAADI check (in Dutch), using KVK number 99601680.
